What theme should we use for their birthday party?
Q. Our children are going to be turning 2(son) and 6(daughter). Their birthdays are so close that we decided to just have one party. But, I dont know if I should have a theme to it or what it should be. Any Suggestions?

Q. I need to create a series of 6 projects weaving a common theme through each. Any ideas? Its for a ceramics class and I have to find a way to use the theme in my pottery later on. A. Pick a broad category like nature, water, science, geography, sports, Asia, food, people, etc. Any broad category will let you do just about anything for each project and still have it tie together.

How do you go about finding the theme of a story?
Q. I have to write a paper about the theme of a short story of my choosing, but I have a difficult time finding a theme. Are there any websites that can help? And what are a few common themes so I know what to look for? I already know what I want to write on, but I don't want to list it here because many of you might not have heard of it, and I don't want you guys doing my homework for me.

A. Many people confuse topic and theme. The topic is who or what a story is about. The theme of a story or novel is the lesson the author wants you to learn. Often, this is the lesson the main character learns in the story. It is usually a general idea that is seen throughout the entire story that changes the characters somehow. Examples of themes: -Love conquers everything. -Beauty comes from within. -Sacrifice -Loyalty -Good triumphs over evil. If you are looking for some good short stories that have very prominent themes, here are some suggestions: *The Gift of The Magi by O. Henry *A Dog's Tale by Mark Twain *Echo and Narcissus (Mythology)
