Q. Hi, Pls anyone of u let me know how to identify the list of printers connected to my network using SNMP. I have configured SNMP Agent. What is SNMP manager. Is it need to configure?. or need to develop?. pls help me

A. Buy a good book on C# and it'll probably tell you in that. You could probably just ask windows how many printers are available - as the OS is probably aware of what devices it can print to.

A. SNMP can run over any datagram service; it doesn't have to be UDP/IP. You could encapsulate an SNMP request in an IPX packet, for example.

Q. Because SNMP uses two different port numbers (UDP ports 161 and 162), a single system can easily run both a manager and an agent. What would happen if the same port number were used for both?
Asked by teaserforever - Mon Mar 12 23:31:35 2007 - - 0 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If you decided to share the port for more than one purpose, you might get conflicts with applications. I don't recommend doing this.

A. You will need to go back to the reference links for the details.. SNMPv1 Message Header SNMPv1 message headers contain two fields: Version Number and Community Name. The following descriptions summarize these fields: Version number Specifies the version of SNMP used. Community name Defines an access environment for a group of NMSs. NMSs within the community are said to exist within the same administrative domain. Community names serve as a weak form of authentication because devices that do not know the proper community name are precluded from SNMP operations. SNMPv2 Message Header SNMPv2 message headers contain two fields: Version Number and Community Name. The following descriptions summarize these fields: Version number… [cont.]

A. Enterprise sub-tree (of private) are MIBs of proprietary objects and are of course not mandatory (sub-tree registered with Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) for example: Cisco router OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.1 SNMP managment nearly always interest in MIB and specific enterprises MIBs I think u're aware of MIBs... [Managment information bases (MIBs) are a collection of definitions, which define the properties of the managed object within the device to be managed. Every managed device keeps a database of values for each of the definitions written in the MIB. It is not the actual database itself - it is implementation dependant]

There are numerous code snippets available on the internet that can show you how to utilize snmp.
