Canada (pronounced /ˈkænədə/) is a country occupying most of upper North America, extending from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west and northward into the Arctic Ocean. It is the world's second largest country by total area and shares the world's longest common border with the United States to the south and northwest.

The land occupied by Canada was inhabited for millennia by various groups of aboriginal people. Beginning in the late 15th century, British and French expeditions explored, and later settled along, the Atlantic coast. France ceded nearly all of its colonies in North America in 1763 after the Seven Years' War. In 1867, with the union of three British North American colonies through Confederation, Canada was formed as a federal dominion of four provinces. This began an accretion of additional provinces and territories and a process of increasing autonomy from the United Kingdom, highlighted by the Statute of Westminster in 1931 and culminating in the Canada Act in 1982, which severed the vestiges of legal dependence on the British parliament.

A federation comprising ten provinces and three territories, Canada is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. It is a bilingual and multicultural country, with both English and French as official languages both at the federal level and in the province of New Brunswick. Technologically advanced and industrialized, Canada maintains a diversified economy that is heavily reliant upon its abundant natural resources and upon trade—particularly with the United States, with which Canada has had a long and complex relationship. It is a member of the G8, NATO, OECD, WTO, the Commonwealth of Nations, the Francophonie, the OAS, APEC, and the United Nations.

Canada is a west east country trying to survive in a north south continent. What does it mean?
Q. It might be because the US has more varied temperatures than Canada because Canada is more narrow and stretches west to east but i think it has something to do with Canada's landform regions. Thank you.

A. The geography is very similar. The Rockies are in the same place, the most fertile land is in the same place, between the Rockies and the Great Lakes. The only major difference is the Canadian Shield, which limits agriculture in the East, but it makes up for it with easy access to minerals. I stand by my first answer. Climate limits development to the north so it has to spread east-west.

How to return a package from Canada to US?
Q. I bought a game off eBay from the United States and it was shipped by USPS. I received it and the game ended up not working properly. I contacted the seller on eBay and they told me to send it back. I was planning on sending it back in the same package they gave me. Can I just mark "return to sender" and mail it back or do I have to pay extra postage? I live in Canada so would I use Canada Post or USPS? I'm confused!

A. You can't say "Return to Sender". That only works if you have never opened the original package (because it's something that has been sent to you by mistake, for example). You have to pay the postage to send it back. Bring it to a local post office where you live and they'll tell you how much postage you need to pay.
