I need help finding info about my dad's dad but have no leads.They were from Rio Grande City. Last Name Silvas
Q. My grandfather's name was Flavio Silvas (1925-1980) and his parents were Santos Silvas and Barbarita Salazar(1900?-1930?). I was told that his mother died before he was 6 and we're not sure about where his father went except that my gpa was alone by the age of 6 or 7. Once my grandfather passed, any other info left with him. For some reason he never wanted to speak of it. We have no info about any siblings or extended family. When I've done searches on ancestry.com I can find a few things, but nothing that will lead anywhere. There's a dead end once I find his parents. Does anyone know how I can find his family? They are also tied to Nueces county in Corpus Christi, TX and Starr County in TX. Any info would be a great help. From… [cont.]

A. You haven't given dates, so I'm not sure when they lived. I would suggest you go first to Check out the Social Security Death Index to see if they are there. If they died before 1935, they won't be in it. Another place to look is Heritage Quest. This is a program you access via your library. They have the US Censuses, and you could put in your grandfather's name and see what you can find. Also, go to and go to Starr County and the other places in TX where you family was from. See if there is information there-and post a query there. Another place to look would be church/cemetery records. Since he was so young when his parents died, there might be records for his care in the courthouse as well. The best of luck to you.

Q. According to the weatherchannel.com, cities like Joinville, Curitiba, Porto Alegre, etc still have average daytime highs between the 70s and 80s even though it is less than a month away before the winter season officially starts down there. Why do so many Brazilians say that Southern Brazil is supposedly so cold when even during the fall and winter season they still experience summer like weather almost every day.

A. The maximum temperature in joinville this next week will be between 24 C to 26 C. Yes it's not really considered cold at all. But you left our the mininum which will be between 12 C and 15 C. In Novo Hamburgo, RS, the maximum next week will be 30 C. Yes, pretty hot. But the minumum will be 10 C. Does your summer weather include a minimum of 10 C? Yes? Well bummer. We're in May. In June and July the overall temperature will drop. The temperature will vary between 0 C and 8 C in certain regions. Temperatures in Bern, Switzerland, during the months of December and January 2007/2008 (my brother was there) varied around 8 C and -5 C.
