Recreation or fun is the expenditure of time in a manner designed for therapeutic refreshment of one's body or mind. While leisure is more likely a form of entertainment or sleep, recreation is active for the participant but in a refreshing and diverting manner. As people in the world's wealthier regions lead increasingly sedentary lifestyles, the need for recreation has increased. The rise of so called active vacations exemplifies this.

Health

A few individuals view recreation as largely non-productive, even trivial. Excessive recreation is not considered healthy, and may be labeled as escapism. However, research has shown that recreation contributes to satisfaction, and that the stress management aspects of it contribute to quality of life, health and wellness, happiness, and that the use of recreation as a diversion may have clinical applications to individuals with chronic pain and other health impairments. In some cultures and religions, recreation is encouraged on certain days and discouraged on others. For example, in Judaism, Shabbat is a day for recreation, study, and relaxation; many Christian churches also have Sabbath. However, others interpret Sabbath to be a day of worship.

According to research cited in Time magazine, stress is a major factor in many of the leading causes of death in the United States.

What are people views on family and recreational nudism?
Q. We are recreational and at home nudists and have been since our daughter was very young. We believe it is a very normal and healthy way to raise a child. Since she grew up like that she is still very comfortable being nude around us and still joins us at a nude beach every now and then (she's not around much these days as she is much older). One great place is a beach in NJ (very popular). It is in Sandy Hook and the beach is called Gunnison.

A. I think family nudism is fine, provided of course there is no sexual contact. All of my family have seen me nude (and I don't mean when I was a baby - I am 16). I sleep nude, and often go from my room to the bathroom and back of a morning without bothering to put anything on. I have met my Mum, Dad and brother in the hall at various times. The first time was a little bit awkward but now we just go about what we are doing. Mum and Dad are OK with it so long as I at least put pants on before coming down stairs. I have seen my brother nude on a number of occasions, mostly passing each other in the bathroom. Again it was awkward the first time but after that it was cool. And I guess every kid has walked in on their parents while they are… [cont.]

Why do some people want to legalize drugs like Marijuana for recreational use?
Q. I'm sorta liberal/ libertarian on most other social issues, but this one I don't get. It goes without saying that hard drugs ruin families and societies, not to mention causes horrific addictions. Why should marijuana be treated any differently? This would be a video for the legalization of Shrooms: What are the reasons for marijuana legalization, if it's going to be for recreational use?

A. It's based upon a personal perspectives of the problems that are caused by the use, and illegality of them. For instance, one can say that alcohol ruins families and societies - however, occasional use doesn't seem to cause any issues at all. Banning alcohol caused a number of problems, not the least of which was to create a new revenue stream for organized crime. It put many people in jail for a "victimless" crime, who were otherwise productive citizens. Similarly, while you can say that marijuana use may ruin families, you can also point out a number of high profile pot smokers who seem to suffer no personal problems with occasional usage. Furthermore, one can easily make the argument that prohibition has added a new and highly… [cont.]
