Has anyone a recipe for Gateau Charentais?
Q. Whilst reading a French travel magazine several years back, I saw mention of a Gateau Charentais, a specialty of the Charentes region of France. I recall it was a kind of cookie, rather than a gateau, but I am not sure of that. It had a piece of citron on top, and then was baked Thank you Lakshmi

A. Gateau Charentais === 4 eggs sugar flour 100g almonds, finely chopped 50g almonds, coarsely chopped Weigh the 4 eggs, and take their combined weight in sugar and flour. Separate the eggs, and beat the 4 yolks with the sugar until the mixture pales completely. Add the sifted flour in small quantities at a time. Next, in a separate, completely grease free bowl, whisk the egg whites to soft peaks. Fold in, followed by 100g of the chopped almonds. Decant the mixture into a buttered mould. Sprinkle the surface of the mixture with the remaining 50g, coarsely chopped almonds. Dust with icing sugar Bake in a moderate oven for 20 minutes. Specialty Farmer's Market in Virginia or North Carolina?
Q. For those of you who have traveled to Atlanta and have had the pleasure of visiting the Dekalb Farmer's Market in Decatur [ is anyone aware of a market similar to this in either the Washington D.C./Richmond VA/Hampton Roads VA/Eastern NC areas? We're looking for something that is more permanent than a weekend flea market/farmer's market during the summer. Hopefully, THIS link will open.

A. In Raleigh, NC there is a great farmer's market open year round. It is open 7 days a week. The link you posted wouldn't open, so I couldn't compare it. But, I do love our farmer's market here. They have a nice mix of incredible fruits/veggies, plants, trees, sod, fish market and speciality jams, meats, nuts, etc.
