What information is a potential employer allowed to ask when contacting Social Security?
Q. What information is a potential employer allowed to ask when contacting Social Security about the work record of a potential employee? And what information can Social Security divulge? I'm looking for facts not just an opinion. If you have a source please leave a link and I do appreciate it. Thanks for your help.

A. I do not believe Social Security will share any information with anyone (except the person who is covered). The employer needs to contact the references and past employers for this info.
