The telephone (from the Greek: τῆλε, tēle, "far" and φωνή, phōnē, "voice") is a telecommunications device that transmits and receives sound, most commonly the human voice. It is one of the most common household appliances in the developed world, and has long been considered indispensable to business, industry and government. The word "telephone" has been adapted to many languages and is widely recognized around the world.

The device operates principally by converting sound waves into electrical signals, and electrical signals into sound waves. Such signals when conveyed through telephone networks — and often converted to electronic and/or optical signals — enable nearly every telephone user to communicate with nearly every other worldwide. Graphic symbols used to designate telephone service or phone-related information in print, signage, and other media include ℡(U+2121), ☎(U+260E), ☏(U+260F), and ✆(U+2706).

What mobile phone should I get for my dad based upon the following details?
Q. Needs fairly large keys (big fingers!) Decent sized screen Good battery life Reasonably strong screen and not too delicate a phone in general. Good loud earpiece and loud ringtones. All other things are a luxury. He doesn't want one of these "ultra-rugged" phones though or one of these "old people" phones. Just a standard high street mobile phone. Cheers!

A. this looks good, not sure about screen size though but would be good choice i think The mobile phone company claims its stripped-down, no-nonsense Jet handset lasts two-thirds longer than any comparable on sale device. The simplified handset is aimed more at business users, but with more than 540 hours on standby and 9.9 hours of talk-time we know a few consumers who like to get their hands on one. O2 boasts that Jet has more than double the talktime of the Nokia 6230i, the most popular device on its network. The robust handset includes a special protective case and comes with a two year warranty. The device offers quad-band connection, GPRS and supports Pop3 and IMAP4 email. The O2 Jet is released on 19th October and its… [cont.]

What is the best cell phone and service?
Q. My phone is dying and my sprint contract is up in November. The plan needs to include two phones that can talk freely amongst each other. I dont need a fancy phone, something affordable and sturdy...I admit I like having the extras but, well, right before christmas is a bad time to need to spend money. Pretty much all services i've heard of seem to be around, Verizon and AT&T bieng the big ones. Also, is there any way to get out of my contract a month of two early without paying too much, should my phone die before November?

A. I had Cingular for my first plan. And I had nothing but problems with them. I couldn`t change plans until my contract was through. I`m currently using US Cellular- And I`m getting more dropped calls. My friends has T-Mobile they like it. You add 5 people to your fav. 5 and talk for free. Good Luck!

A. For T-Mobile the Samsung Memoir has an 8 Megapixel Camera which is REALLY good, considering almost all phones are only 2-4 Megapixels. It also shoots video which is helpful too :D
