This administrative unit is typically found in Roman Catholic, Anglican, United Methodist, and Presbyterian churches. It refers to a local, ecclesiastical community or territory, including its main church building, perhaps one or more chapels of ease and other property. In some countries, ecclesiastical parishes have become the basis for secular administrative divisions, also called "parish", but more precisely described as civil parishes, a subject which is dealt with separately. Ecclesiastical parishesA parish is a territorial subdivision of a diocese, eparchy or bishopric, within the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Church of Sweden, and of some other churches. The word "parish" is also used more generally to refer to the collection of people who attend a particular church. In this usage, a parish minister is one who serves a congregation. GNU Free Documentation License If members of a parish ask a parish council to carry out a judicial review, who should fund it? Q. Should the parish council pay the costs or the parishioners who requested it? Basically, i have recently joined a parish council, and the previous council were asked by the parish to organise a judicial review, because of a planning application which the borough passed, despite the parish council and the parish putting a very strong case against it. The parish lost the case in the courts. Now i have joined and am concerned at the amount of money that has been spent on this case by the parish council. I really wanted to know who should be footing these bills, the council or the parishioners who asked the council to fight it. It is possible that the parishioners have locus standi to bring the claim themselves, in which case they should fund it and might even get legal aid. It is unusual for a parish council to seek JR - can you give any more details? Answered by Kate R - Thu Jul 12 13:49:16 2007 What jobs did parish priests do in the middle ages? Q. Peace...Our creche (nativity scene) has been moved out of view to about 90% of the people attending Mass, including children and our Advent Wreath has been changed to bright red candles, red tablecloth and more festive decor since Advent is over. I guess our tradition and customs are losing out lately..."orthros" Asked by orthros - Fri Dec 28 17:04:14 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Advent wreath in purple by the ambo during Advent, but not during the solemnity on the 8th or the Feast on the 12th. (It shouldn't have been there at all, it isn't liturgical it's popular custom for homes.) Christmas, no advent wreath. Creche at the entrance of the Church not up front. Again, it isn't supposed to be part of the liturgical landscape. Answered by Scott S - Fri Dec 28 17:12:17 2007 From Yahoo Answer Search: "parish" Parish residents can now get weather alerts
