What are organic foods? How can we differentiate them with the other foods?
Q. This is what we call technology age and we are not sure anymore if the food we take in pass through technology too.So to be able not to have high risk diseases, why should we consume organic foods? Is it a must that we should be more conscious of our food nowadays? What do u think?

A. organic foods are foods that have not had artificial fertilisers and chemicals sprayed on them! there is no way to distinguish them from non organic foods! i think we should look at what we eat much closer! look back a few hundred years ago, things like cancer was almost non existent! these chemicals must be at least partly to blame! and its not only us that should look at what we eat, there should be regulations and guidelines that farmers must follow! i understand that without the artificial sprays there yield would be lower but they can use natural sprays and funding should be put into research into developing new natural sprays that are more effective!! i want to have a completely chemical free diet sometime in the future!!

How come Organic foods are so expensive?
Q. I dont understand why an organic apple is almost twice the price of a regular apple. I would figure that without the use of expensive pesticides and/or hormones added to these natural foods, the price savings would be forwarded to the customer. Personally this is a huge marketing ploy and these farmers are getting paid.

A. Price savings are not always forwarded to the customer. Sometimes profits are needed to offset a bad year where bad weather reduced the crop yield, or more money is needed to invest in seeds for future crops. There are many ways of managing the money. For the original question - organic foods are generally more expensive because they have to be grown a certain way to be organic. They are labor intensive and greater care is required. There must be eternal vigilance when it comes to insects and molds. Natural or non-chemical pest controls must be established. These things don't happen by accident or second rate farming methods. The farmer has to be competent and know what he is doing. It is not easy to produce organic foods, so I think… [cont.]

How to get organic foods in a small town?
Q. I am moving to a rural town and was wondering how to go about getting organic foods.
Asked by Kevin C - Wed Oct 3 17:51:18 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Check local farms, produce stands, groceries and ask- hopefully, you will have some land in your rural area and be able to plant and preserve veggies, maybe even have a chicken or two for eggs, or a goat for milk (and no lawn mowing!!) Buy bulk items when you travel to a town with an organic store, or on-line.
