What would be the ramifications of a missing lymph node?
Q. I've recently started retaining lymph in my body and nobody has figured out why. I have to take medication daily - if I miss a single dose I begin to swell. I've recently discovered that I am missing one of the nodes in my neck. Could this be the problem and what are the ramifications of not having that node?
Asked by cheergirl - Tue Feb 3 12:35:35 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Typically lymphedema occurs when a whole group of lymph nodes are removed. I don t know how anyone can tell if you have a missing lymph node as there is not a set number in any particular location and there is no way to count them without removing the entire area and plucking them out of the tissue. People have them removed for biopsy all the time with no problems. I hope they find what is causing yours.

What is a normal lymph node supposed to feel like?
Q. In one of my books it says, that a movable, nontender cervical node is abnormal and could mean lymphoma. I thought the lymph nodes are supposed to be movable and nontender. They're not supposed to be hard and immovable. ? Im confused. they are crazy im right
Asked by Vena Cava - Mon Mar 2 12:02:35 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I think the book is being alittle confusing. Lymphoma usually has harder/firm nodes. Nontender usually refers to not being painful to palpation. Movable relates to the node being firmer so it is easier to "push" around.
