New Orleans (pronounced /njuː ˈɔrliənz/, /nuː ˈɔrlənz/, or /ˈnɔrlənz/ by locals, /ˌnuː ɔrˈliːnz/ by many non-locals, and in French: La Nouvelle-Orléans [lanuvɛlɔʀleɑ̃] ( listen)) is a major U.S. port and the largest city in Louisiana. New Orleans is the center of the New Orleans Metropolitan Area, the largest metro area in the state.

New Orleans is located in southeastern Louisiana, straddling the Mississippi River. It is coextensive with Orleans Parish, meaning that the boundaries of the city and the parish are the same. It is bounded by the parishes of St. Tammany (north), St. Bernard (east), Plaquemines (south) and Jefferson (south and west). Lake Pontchartrain, part of which is included in the city limits, lies to the north and Lake Borgne lies to the east.

The city is named after Philippe II, Duc d'Orléans, Regent of France, and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. It is well known for its multicultural and multilingual heritage cuisine, architecture, music (particularly as the birthplace of jazz), and its annual Mardi Gras and other celebrations and festivals. The city is often referred to as the "most unique" city in America.

I want to Travel to New Orleans, to tour the Cemeteries any tips interesting places to visit?
Q. How bad were the cemeteries hit in New Orleans by Katrina? Are there still tours of the area? I want to travel around the Halloween season, any interesting places related to ghosts, etc.? A. I was in New Orleans in April and can tell you that the tourist areas of the city are in pretty good shape. You'll have a terrific time when you go. The Times-Picayune's web site has an entire page dedicated to Haunted New Orleans: As for tours, I always recommend Robert Florence's company, Historic New Orleans Walking Tours. I've taken many tours with him over the years and have never been disappointed. He's a great storyteller who manages to be fascinating without all the sensationalistic and corny junk of other tour companies on whom I've squandered money in the past. He's also written two very well-received books on New Orleans cemeteries. He does haunted tours, cemetery/voodoo tours and historical-architectural tours. Be… [cont.]

Where can I find grants to plant trees in New Orleans?
Q. I want to revitalize a playground in New Orleans. The area is very poor and coming back slowly that I am considering. Due the families having low budgets, I was thinking of planting apple, orange and pecan trees in the park over the benches. I know the trees would bare fruit and the kids would be able to have a healthy snack. Any ideas of who I could ask for finacing on the trees and materials need to plant them? ANy ideas on playground funders would be great too.
