Menarche (pronounced /mɨˈnɑrki/, from Greek μήν moon + αρχή beginning) is the first menstrual cycle, or first menstrual bleeding in the females of human beings. From both social and medical perspectives it is often considered the central event of female puberty, as it signals the possibility of fertility. Timing of menarche is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors, especially nutritional status. The average age of menarche has declined over the last century but the magnitude of the decline and the factors responsible remain subjects of contention. The average age of menarche in the United States is about 12.5 years and 13.06 ± 0.10 years in Iceland. PhysiologyFrom Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "menarche" How much discharge is a girl suppose to get each day before she starts menarche? Q. I'm thirteen, and I haven't gotten my period yet, but I do get a lot, lot, lot discharge everyday. Every once in awhile I get a lot and it feels like I literally peed in my pants. Also, everyday I put some tissues in my undies so I don't feel the discharge. Is that common? Asked by Jane - Sat May 19 17:38:21 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. I know some is normal, but too much isn't good. It could be a sign of infection. As women we are susceptible to many things in that area. Talk to your Mom or adult guardian to make an appointment with a gynecologist. Your school nurse may be able to answer these kinds of questions as well. If you are embarrassed about having a man look at you, try and find a female gynecologist. You may want to start buying panty liners to wear daily. They look like regular maxi's but they are much, much thinner and more comfortable for daily use rather than regular pads. Good luck and I hope you are ok:) Answered by fashionablyconsiousbutconfused - Sat May 19 17:50:54 2007 Irregular period after menarche last month? Q. I am 14 years old and I have just started my menarche (ever first period) last month. I'm worried that this month's period might be late or I might even skip this month. Is it normal or should I be worried. I'm not entirely sure that last month was really my menarche since I've been having "brown spots" on my underwear since January and only until June I would say the flow started to be regular. P.S.: I'm not sexually active. Thanks for any answers. Asked by cherry_blossom - Thu Jul 17 13:10:35 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It's totally normal! The first year is usually irregular, and it's not practical to keep a schedule until maybe a year after menarche. It's also normal not to know when to expect it, because cramps and bloating don't come into play until two or three months after menarche. Periods, especially first ones, are tricky. Your first period can be bloody and embarrassing, but the following ones can be light and barely noticeable. This is because your body isn't yet used to the process. It's basically having a baby without the baby. Once your body gets used to the rhythm of your periods, they will start to get regular. It was on my 13th birthday. Answered by Tara662 - Fri Jan 18 21:49:24 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "menarche" |
