Nounmanufacturing
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Manufacturing is the use of machines, tools and labor to make things for use or sale. The term may refer to a range of human activity, from handicraft to high tech, but is most commonly applied to industrial production, in which raw materials are transformed into finished goods on a large scale. Such finished goods may be used for manufacturing other, more complex products, such as household appliances or automobiles, or sold to wholesalers, who in turn sell them to retailers, who then sell them to end users - the "consumers". Manufacturing takes turns under all types of economic systems. In a free market economy, manufacturing is usually directed toward the mass production of products for sale to consumers at a profit. In a collectivist economy, manufacturing is more frequently directed by the state to supply a centrally planned economy. In free market economies, manufacturing occurs under some degree of government regulation. Modern manufacturing includes all intermediate processes required for the production and integration of a product's components. Some industries, such as semiconductor and steel manufacturers use the term fabrication instead. The manufacturing sector is closely connected with engineering and industrial design. Examples of major manufacturers in the United States include General Motors Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, Boeing, Gates Rubber Company and Pfizer. Examples in Europe include Airbus, Daimler, BMW, Fiat, and Michelin Tyre. From Wikipedia under the

Q. I am interviewing with a manufacturing company next week. The company manufactures central a/c units. I have about 3 years experience in finance and costing and a Finance Degree from Texas. Personally I do not know that I qualify for the position but they asked to interview me. What can I do in the next week and half to prepare for the questions that they may ask? What kind of questions can I expect? What skills in particular will make me standout and be chosen for this position. Thanks. Asked by JP - Wed Jul 18 17:19:52 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. I am currently a controller and I have 17 years of experience. What I have found over my career is that you can rise as far as you want to push, in most cases people will gladly hand over responsibilities. You seem to have a pretty good base of experience for an assistant controller position. This is primarily the "grooming position" for the next controller. Your job duties will not be much more than most accounting managers with the exception that as time goes on you will be doing more controller duties. Expect to be asked about preparing/reviewing financial statements as well as how you would report on specific operational issues (i.e. buy vs rent and other investment activities). What you want to find out is the experience of the… [cont.] Answered by Space493 - Wed Jul 18 17:54:49 2007 What contributions did the blowing iron and the bottle machine make to the manufacturing of glass? Q. What contributions did the blowing iron and the bottle machine make to the manufacturing of glass? Asked by ineedhelpwithsomething - Mon Jun 4 16:37:10 2007 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. My heavens, you certainly want to span a few hundred centuries. The blowing iron was developed shortly after the birth of Christ and converted glass from an expensive something wrapped around a core to a much quicker and cheaper product inflated from molten glass. There are thousands of pieces and fragments of vessels from Roman times. The bottle machine was developed in several steps at the end of 19th century and was the beginning of the end of hand blown retail glass which remains as art glass. By 1910, virtually no hand blown factory glass was being produced.
