Interior Decorating Facts

Interior design or Décor is a profession concerned with anything that is found inside a space - walls, windows, doors, finishes, textures, light, furnishings and furniture. All of these elements are used by interior designers to develop a functional, safe, and aesthetically pleasing space for a building's user.

The work of an interior designer draws upon many disciplines including environmental psychology, architecture, product design, and traditional decoration (aesthetics and cosmetics). They plan the spaces of almost every type of building including: hotels, corporate spaces, schools, hospitals, private residences, shopping malls, restaurants, theaters, and airport terminals. Today, interior designers must be attuned to architectural detailing including floor plans, home renovations, and construction codes. Some interior designers are architects as well.

Interior Decorating Answers
Do your kids' rooms look like those in magazines and interior decorating books?
Q. I've found that even after all the painting and decoration and accessories, my kids' rooms don't look much like those in interior decor books. I am talking about the books with simple ideas for regular people on an average budget. The kids and I decorate/plan together, and we are very happy with the end results, but the rooms just look ordinary. So, does your kid's room look like those in magazines and interior decor books? Or, does it look nice but "ordinary"?

A. A few of the families I have worked with have had amazing kid rooms that could be from a magazine. If your entire house looks like a magazine, chances are your child's room will, too. If your own home looks "ordinary," the likelihood of pulling off a magazine quality child's room is probably not any better than your non magazine style living room. Just be glad your kids can express themselves in their rooms. That's half the fun!

Anyone have any catchy names for an Interior Decorating business?
Q. I'm drafting my start-up business plan for a summer college course, one that I intend to use after I graduate, and I'm generally pretty good at coming up with names for other people's faux-businesses, but now that I'm trying to think of my own, I'm stumped! It's an interior design business that I eventually would sell handmade furniture and other high-quality goods in (pertaining to the interior decorating business.) Any ideas? I need help and anything is appreciated! Thanks! :)
