A. The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), commonly known in the United States as "Homeland Security", is a Cabinet department of the U.S. federal government with the responsibility of protecting the territory of the U.S. from terrorist attacks and responding to natural disasters. The purpose of FEMA is to coordinate the response to a disaster which has occurred in the United States and which overwhelms the resources of local and state authorities. Since 2003, FEMA has been under the Department of Homeland Security.

Why didn't Hurricane Katrina Encourage the Creation of a New Federal Department just as 9-11 Did?
Q. I was just thinking: Why didn't the disastrous aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the inability of established government services to address the disaster, not spur the creation of a new Federal department? The government decided the FBI wasn't equipped to handle 9-11 or national security issues, so the Department of Homeland Security was created. If the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was unable to handle necessarily massive inter-departmental mobilization to handle an emergency beyond normal disasters, then why not create a department that can? How about a "Department of Disaster Rebuilding?" How about a "Department of Disaster Mobilization?" I actually would be satisfied if even a small federal agency would have been… [cont.]

A. Like he says Katrina was a wake-up call, you really have to learn from your fatal mistakes, and the FEMA response was just that a fatal response, they knew Katrina was going to hit New Orleans but they did nothing to prepare for the fall-out or aid people in getting out of the city, I would rather spend money to bus people out of the path of danger than to go in later and have to rescue people or find bodies. I was always told better to be safe than sorry. Nothing like the mistakes that were made in New Orleans should ever be made again, not in a highly evolved society, as we all claim to be.

A. Truly an outstanding question and information. Thank you. He is a dictator and a war criminal. Over 100,000 complaints has been filed in ICC ( International Criminal Court for war crimes) by victims of war against bush and cheney. He is a slave to the criminal Elites and big fat corps. and doesn't give a damn about Americans. The smart Americans know the facts well. The rest will find out when the storm troopers knock on their doors. Regards.

Hey Christians.. Are we living in the end times?
Q. I strongly believe we are living in the last days of the earth. I was reading the news and I saw that flooding has left 300,000 people homeless, countless dead in North Korea. It's evident that Natural disasters, wars, rumors of war, diseases, famine are increasing at an alarming rate. Science cannot keep up with these newly detected viruses. The United States Federal Emergency Management Agency reported that "The increasing number and intensity of natural disasters" is one of the many serious problems they are facing. I bet more atheists will insult me and this question more than christians will respond with a decent answer. the reason I know this is because atheists work for the Devil in disguise. They claim they don't believe in the… [cont.]

A. I think we are. I am therefore paid up, packed up, and looking up. I will not see it though as I will (sounds like you will be too) will be raptured out of here. The book of Revelations is in the headlines everyday and I for one don't understand how anyone cannot want to follow Christ to eternity.

Democratic vs. Republican views on FEMA?
Q. The Federal Emergency Management Agency - FEMA's purpose is to coordinate the response to a disaster which has occurred in the United States and which overwhelms the resources of local and state authorities. I have a project to do in english class and I am a democratic person. The problem is, our candidate we're supposed to make is republican. I need the views of BOTH the democratics and republicans on FEMA and economy and whatnot. Help please?

A. Republican here. FEMA is a great organization, but slow to some disasters. They were somewhat of a help to the Katrina victims, but greatly damaged Houston, were I live. Thousands of people came to houston from New Orleans and the surrounding areas from the aftermath of Katrina. FEMA, should take care af people displaced from disasters withOUT hurting outher citys. Not sure exactly what you want to know about the economy and whatnot, but I have a view suggestions. There is the whole Abortion vs. Adoption thing, as a Republican, I fully support anti-abortion, and find abortion to be murder. Also, death penalty vs. life in prison, what is harder to do? Most definatly life in prison, if you are a murderer, and on death row, it is not much… [cont.]
