What happened to the print-based encyclopedia industry when PC CD-ROMs and now the internet (Wikipedia) rose to prominence? Encyclopedia Britannica still has an online presence, but do salesman still sell the 30 volume set? Do only schools and libariries buy them now? Are Collier's and the World Book still alive? Is it an undustry that has blossomed with the PC or suffered? Asked by Dando - Thu Sep 28 02:06:17 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. The encyclopedia industry must go online or die. Q. I'm looking for a recent (past 40 years) critical review of the Encyclopedia Britannica Eleventh Edition (1911). The more recent the better. The more scholarly the better. Looking for comments on its value and worth as a research source today and errors it contains. The most recent review I could fund was from the 1920s. Any help appreciated! Also, if you scroll down to 'Wikipedia Content' you will find details of someone who has a copy and who is willing to discuss the content with anyone. He gives his contact as Britanicajo@hotmail.com. If you scroll even further down, under 'EB1911 More Harm Than Good', you will find a less than glowing… [cont.] Answered by sincerely yours - Wed Aug 2 18:02:00 2006 From Yahoo Answer Search: "encyclopedia" Wikipedia Blocks Church of Scientology From Editing Entries
