USMC MOS Question/Open Contract?
Q. I go to MEPS on Monday, where I intend to enlist on an open contract. On my ASVAB pre-test, I scored 84. If I score similarly on Monday, what sort of MOS will I be offered? I have a degree in Political Science, and I'm strong in language and math. I have no proficiency in electronics/machinery. I told my recruiter I wanted to serve as "Infantry Unit Leader," and he shrugged me off..lol. And I guess there aren't any infantry jobs open until September... Rangers, I want to leave for May boot camp. My recruiter told me this would only be possible if I enlisted on open contract. I cannot wait until September, you douche. I don't imagine the USMC would make me work in the chow hall if I score 84 on my ASVAB. Come on, brah.

A. Dont go open contract. If you do, it will be up to the USMC as to what job you get. Sure, your ASVAB will count some, but it will be where they need you that will decide your job. You say you dont have much proficiency in mechanics or electronics, but they may just make you a truck mechanic anyway. Open contract is just rolling the dice and seeing what you get. If you really want to be infantry, tell them. I find it hard to believe that there are no openings. When I was in, we were never at full strength. An 'Infantry Unit Leader' is another name for Platoon Commander. That is an officers job. If you want to be in charge of a unit, you must earn it like everyone else.
