From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Design is the planning that lays the basis for the making of every object or system. It can be used both as a noun and as a verb and, in a broader way, it means applied arts and engineering (See design disciplines below). As a verb, "to design" refers to the process of originating and developing a plan for a product, structure, system, or component with intention. As a noun, "a design" is used for either the final (solution) plan (e.g. proposal, drawing, model, description) or the result of implementing that plan in the form of the final product of a design process. This classification aside, in its broadest sense no other limitations exist and the final product can be anything from clothing to graphical user interfaces to skyscrapers. Even virtual concepts such as corporate identity and cultural traditions such as celebration of certain holidays are sometimes designed. More recently, processes (in general) have also been treated as products of design, giving new meaning to the term process design. The person designing is called a designer, which is also a term used for people who work professionally in one of the various design areas, usually also specifying which area is being dealt with (such as a fashion designer, concept designer or web designer). Designing often requires a designer to consider the aesthetic, functional, and many other aspects of an object or a process, which usually requires considerable research, thought, modeling, interactive adjustment, and re-design. With such a broad definition, there is no universal language or unifying institution for designers of all disciplines. This allows for many differing philosophies and approaches toward the subject. However, serious study of design demands increased focus on the design process. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How does the design of a TV tower antenna help it to get a better signal? Q. What is it about the design of an antenna that helps it to function more efficiently? How exactly does it pull the signals in? Would it hurt, help, or not really affect the reception, if I attatched a metal object to it? Would it give it more surface area for signals to be absorbed through or interfere with the origional design? Asked by BulletBite_45 - Mon Dec 4 14:00:46 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The number and size of the elements (rods) are determined by the frequency you want to receive. To receive multiple frequencies, the rods will be of different lengths. The should be horizontal because TV signals are horizontally polarized. The design is important and any added metal, etc., would probably do more harm than good as it would interfere with the design. I put in the link below to give you pictures of the antennas. Each design has its own advantages and disadvantages, depending on what you need. Answered by wires - Mon Dec 4 15:01:28 2006 What is the difference between design theory of evolution and intelligent design? Q. I know that intelligent design is the theological aspect of evolution, but that there is also another theory called "design theory." How does this theory work without using God as an explanation? Thank you!!! Asked by Yoni - Sun Mar 23 21:22:07 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Design theory is just another name for Intelligent Design. Intelligent Design is not so much a 'theory', as a set of questions posed to evolution. I.e. it questions whether Darwininan theory of evolution by natural selection is sufficient to explain various features we find in biology ... but it doesn't actually offer much in the way of an alternative explanation of these features. In fairness, these are often very good questions. Questions about complexity, information, the emergence of hierarchy, etc. But: 1. A set of questions is not a theory. A theory needs to *explain* something ... describe it in terms of something simpler. Asking questions to dispute evolution doesn't offer an alternative explanation.
