Consumer is a broad label that refers to any individuals or households that use goods and services generated within the economy. The concept of a consumer is used in different contexts, so that the usage and significance of the term may vary.

In economics and marketing

Typically when business people and economists talk of consumers they are talking about person as consumer, an aggregated commodity item with little individuality other than that expressed in the buy/not-buy decision. However there is a trend in marketing to individualize the concept. Instead of generating broad demographic profile and psycho graphic profiles of market segments, marketers are engaging in personalized marketing, permission marketing, and mass customization.

Should I go to an assessment for Consumers Energy or a test to be a corrections officer?
Q. The Consumers job will pay 11 an hour, and the corrections job will pay 31,000 and get me out of Michigan, which is pretty much dying. What should I do?
Asked by Barracuda - Tue Sep 23 22:35:56 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. First off, after taxes, the $31,000 is pretty close to $11/hr. Which will you enjoy more? In corrections, you will tell miserable people what to do all day, have a bit of power that you will see many co-workers abuse, and have a slim chance at talking a person into changing their life...like maybe 1:1000 chance. You will be cool sounding at right-wing events, and you may get to carry a badge and/or weapon. You will NOT be allowed to leave until your replacement comes in, you could be in danger at times, and a lot of your job may entail standing on your feet all day. depending on the agency, you may or may not, ever get a raise or a promotion. I know nada about consumer Energy. What do you have to lose by taking the tests for each?

Can anyone explain why there are more producers than consumers in a food web?
Q. I know that there are more producers than consumers in a food web, except for some aquatic ecosystems, but why are there more producers?
Asked by boom shaka lacka - Sun Sep 21 15:22:04 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Because for example one large eagle needs lots of small sparrows to eat. There is usually a food pyramid so for example you could display it along the lines of 1,000 worms are eaten by 20 sparrows which are eaten by 1 eagle. Its just the way things are. It is a fine balance. if you went up to two eagles on same land they would run out of food quickly and then would either starve or have to move on and using up all the food doesnt help them so it needs to be in a fine balance. A balanced ecosystem.
