College (Latin: collegium) is a term most often used today to denote degree awarding tertiary educational institution. More broadly, it can be the name of any group of colleagues, for example, an electoral college, a College of Arms or the College of Cardinals. Originally, it meant a group of persons living together, under a common set of rules (con- = "together" + leg- = "law" or lego = "I choose"); indeed, some colleges call their members "fellows". The precise usage of the term varies among the English-speaking countries. In the United States, for example, the terms 'college' and 'university' may be regarded as loosely interchangeable, whereas in the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia, a 'college' is usually an institution between school and university level (although constituent schools within universities are also known as 'colleges'). I'm planning on becoming a police officer after HS.And I'm not planning on attending University, instead I plan on attending college and get some sort of degree...Where should I start ? I'm planning on following a course in general Law, in order to become a police officer. Should I attend community college or regular college? What's the difference ? Correct me If I'm wrong, but is community college local and you basically attend class for the day and go home at night just like High School ? And is regualr college, an establishment where you live in a dorm on campus and attend college for the year, and get the summer off ? A community college is affordable and only issues AA degrees. You pay by units for classes and not a set semester fee. That's why it's more affordable. As for a university, this is a four year establishment where one can obtain a bachelor's degree in any subject they carry. If you want to just get your general education, then you go to a community college and transfer over to a university to obtain a bachelor's degree. Many people opt for community college because they are working and can't go to school full time. A university charges you a set fee for semester, it's very expensive and you have to pretty much go full time to get your money's worth. My husband is in law enforcement and you don't need a degree. But if you desire a degree,… [cont.] Answered by Devika P - Mon Jul 30 18:34:37 2007 What college should i enroll in the philippines? University of the Philippines - that's the only recommendation you'll get from me (die hard peyups here!). SAT not required!!! But you have to pass the UPCAT (UP College Admissions Test) and your SAT is a good preparation for this. And YES, we do speak good English in the Philippines. It is our medium of instruction. Q. Only Canadians, please, because in other countries 'college' means a different thing. I will be graduating with a Geography degree from Wilfrid Laurier next year and I wanted to do GIS. I'm thinking that getting a diploma in college in computer programming will increase my chances for succesfull employment because I looked around at GIS jobs, and most of them require high computer proficiency. Also, are Canadian colleges as recognized world wide as universities? Thanks. Asked by kat5998 - Fri Oct 19 10:42:26 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. It doesn't matter what diploma. A diploma alone is not sufficient for anyone to be certain of getting a good paying job. As the previous person said, you have to have experience. You also have to prove your diploma is more than a piece of paper. You have to show you actually learned something and didn't only do just enough on tests to pass. You have to interview well. People who interview poorly rarely get hired. When they do get hired, they often get hired into poor jobs. You have to have some idea of what you want to do and why. The answer cannot be money. Technology employers don't want people who just want to make money. It sound like you have a plan that makes sense, though. Good luck.
