Is an automatic transmission best in buying a truck to pull an RV or does it matter?
Q. I'm in the process of purchasing a truck for the purpose of pulling an RV? Being new at this I am wondering whether an automatic or standard is best for pulling.
Asked by harrical55 - Fri Jul 20 09:29:57 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Many RV'rs use automatic. The most important thing is to buy one with a transmission suitable for pulling the weight of the loaded RV. Wrong transmission the biggest mistake I,ve seen. You will be climbing up to 15% grade if not more. Canada has some steep grades should you go there. Have this info when you shop. Be careful that the salesman knows what he/she is talking about. Consider the fresh water, Extra fuel tank and propane if applicable, all personal belongings, kitchen wares, any sporting equipment, etc. Good luck and have fun.

Buying an RV as a permanent residence in California during an active Chapter 13 BK?
Q. I am currently in a Chapter 13 plan (since 4/05). I live in CA and have been a homeowner from 1998 till right before filing my Chapter 13 due to an expensive & litigious Divorce. Unfortunately, I am unable to afford a home based on real estate prices in California. I have restablished credit (below the $1000 threshold allowed) & my credit score is 600 which I've been told is very good for an active BK. In regards to taxes, I can no longer claim my kids and I've lost the homeowner's deduction, I would like to purchase an RV as a permanent residence. I have checked with an attorney and a tax advisor who both advise this is a smart move based on my income and tax bracket. The attorney advises that the Chapter 13 Trustee will, most… [cont.]

A. Sorry you're going through this issue. Your question caught my attention because I actually lived in an RV while going to college and living in South Orange County. There are two ways of going about this. First, the way I tried was horrible and failed miserably. And that is to just live on the streets, move the RV from time to time and fill up on water and drain when you can. The major problem is of course, you become a number one target for the Police and people hate you. It's a very sick unsecure feeling to not have any place to 'call your own' and constantly feel like a criminal. (almost) Second is to have or rent a place to park the thing permanantly. This would be a good option in my opinion. The only issue is one again cost. Renting… [cont.]

I am buying a RV Fifth Wheel to be used as my permanent home for $24,000.?
Q. I'm financing it through a personal loan from my cousin. But, I still need credit life insurance to make sure the RV home is paid for if I die before the note is paid off. Can I get this insurance anyway being HIV+?
Asked by RICK S - Mon Jul 20 14:13:29 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. How long is the term of the note? If it's a short term, and you're *only* hiv+ without fullblown aids, it's possible to find coverage through a high risk broker. You could also consider extremely expensive guaranteed issue policies - although at the cost, you could probably pay off the RV a couple years sooner, by putting that extra premium to the principle.
