Finance Help: Check my answers Please?
Q. Your uncle died last year and left you money in his will. You are to receive $70,000 three years from today (i.e., in time 3). (a) What is the value of the inheritance today (in time 0) if the appropriate discount rate is 4% and you compound annually? 70,000/((1.04)^3)=62229.7 5 (b) If you invest the money when you receive it in time 3, how much will it grow to 25 years from today (i.e., in time 25) if you earn 4% each year? 7000+(1.04)^25= 186608.54 3. Your neighbor is buying a new recreational vehicle (RV). He has the following options to finance the RV: I. Pays $42,000 today (in time 0) II. Buy under a "no payments for two years" program by agreeing to pay $45,000 two years from today (in time 2). III. Make 72 monthly… [cont.]

A. Answer: a) What is the value of the inheritance today (in time 0) if the appropriate discount rate is 4% and you compound annually? Correct: $62,229.75 (b) If you invest the money when you receive it in time 3, how much will it grow to 25 years from today (i.e., in time 25) if you earn 4% each year? Wrong: You should deduct first the future value factor from time zero to time three. (1.04^25 - 1.04^3) x 7000 = 107868.0632 3. Your neighbor is buying a new recreational vehicle (RV). He has the following options to finance the RV: I. Pays $42,000 today (in time 0) Same: $42000 II. Buy under a "no payments for two years" program by agreeing to pay $45,000 two years from today (in time 2). Correct: $39,304.74 (best option) III. Make… [cont.]

What will americans do when the world runs out of petroleum? It may be alot sooner than later.?
Q. Well, it seems to me that only americans buy the most gas guzzlers, everyone else in the world, have better sensibilities. Unless you're a government in need of practical utility vehicles. The limo industry could easily convert to an alternative fuel source, but heavy industry will have difficulties, there are a lot more over-sized trucks doing genuine work than a lot of people may realize. The recreational driver will be the most put out, since you only get about 10 miles to the gallon on most typical big pick-ups, before aftermarket tampering. Although, there will always be motorcyles, they can run off of almost anything. I seem to recall, a role playing game called Car Wars, where all the vehicles ran on Electricity. Will it ever get… [cont.]

A. The world doesn't have a short supply of petroleum. It only has a short supply of 'easy' petroleum. Over time, crude oil will be more and more difficult to get out of the ground, and require more refining to be usuable. So stuff will be more expensive. But that's Ok, because that will make solar cars, hydrogen powered cars, ethanol powered cars, etc., a better deal. Right now, they are too expensive, and nobody wants them. But the higher price of oil will be the best thing for those more environmentally freindly alternatives.
