Cue sports (sometimes spelled cuesports), also known as billiard sports, are a wide variety of games of skill generally played with a cue stick which is used to strike billiard balls, moving them around a cloth-covered billiards table bounded by rubber cushions. Historically, the umbrella term was billiards. While that familiar name is still employed by some as a generic label for all such games, the word's usage has splintered into more exclusive competing meanings in various parts of the world. For example, in British and Australian English, "billiards" usually refers exclusively to the game of English billiards, while in American and Canadian English it is sometimes used to refer to a particular game or class of games, or to all cue games in general, depending upon dialect and context. There are three major subdivisions of games within cue sports:
More obscurely, there are games that make use of obstacles and targets, and table-top games played with disks instead of balls. Billiards has a long and rich history stretching from its inception in the 15th century; to the wrapping of the body of Mary, Queen of Scots in her billiard table cover in 1586; through its many mentions in the works of Shakespeare, including the famous line "let's to billiards" in Antony and Cleopatra (1606–07); to the dome on Thomas Jefferson's home Monticello, which conceals a billiard room he hid, as billiards was illegal in Virginia at that time; and through the many famous enthusiasts of the sport including, Mozart, Louis XIV of France, Marie Antoinette, Immanuel Kant, Napoleon, Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, George Washington, French president Jules Grévy, Charles Dickens, George Armstrong Custer, Theodore Roosevelt, Lewis Carroll, W.C. Fields, Babe Ruth, Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason, and many others. From Wikipedia under the

Just wondering what kind of physics is involved with pool...considering all aspects of the game (such as english, banks, power, felt, etc). I would really appreciate it! Asked by Jerrick A - Wed Jan 2 05:14:52 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. Forget it altogether!!! Honestly!! In pool, billiards and snooker, u'll be working ur nuts off!! Could you work out, the cloth resistivity, the force made with each shot , 'top', 'middle', 'stun-right & left', 'screw back', also possibly with stun and side on it!! Give it up!! That's without working out air resistance, chalk application, 'kick' , the cushion tension and ball weight material and material, under the felt!! Do 'AIR-HOCKEY'!!! Much easier with less coefficients gd luck Answered by Daz C - Wed Jan 2 05:32:02 2008 What is the difference between pool and billiards and snooker? Q. What is the difference between pool and billiards and snooker? Asked by Dsfngd F - Thu Feb 19 22:37:38 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Billiards: Pocketless table (5 x 10 ft), generally played with 3 balls. Different games include 3-cushion, 5 pin, or straight rail, although there are other options. The balls are slightly bigger than pool or snooker balls. Pool: Six pockets on a table (4.5 x 9 ft). Popular games include 8 ball, 9 ball, 10 ball, one pocket, and straight pool. The balls are numbered 1-15 and the games take advantage of them in various ways. Snooker: Big table with six pockets (6 x 12 ft). Pocket openings have rounded corners so you have to be more exact with shots. Snooker balls are a little smaller. There are 15 red balls, and 6 colored balls plus the cue ball. Q. I've only had my site up for 4 weeks or so and have had really great response so far. How would you promote it - I appreciate all answers because I may be overlooking something. Thanks Asked by PoolRoomPaintings.com - Thu Feb 28 09:56:01 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would post it on Craigs List. Or make flyers to put available in bars and poolhalls.
