How are horses determined in the derby or belmont?
Q. I cant figure out how the horses are determined in the triple crown race. For example Guadacanal had never won a race but yet raced in the belmont. Please help me understand.
Asked by Fatty - Sun Jun 8 10:05:49 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As long as the owner has paid the entry fee then any horse can run in a Group 1 race - there is no prerequisite to have won a race before. If, come the final declaration stage, usually 24-48 hours before the race takes place, there are more horses entered than places available, only then will the least experienced horses be removed from the field. Over here we call it being "balloted out".

A. I like the following play: Pick3 starting in Race-9 Race-9 (Woody Stephens Stakes) - J Be K (Number 5) Race 10 (Woodford Reserve Stakes) - ALL Horses (11 Horses) Race 11 (Belmont Stakes) - Big Brown (Number 1) A play for $1 Pick3 would cost $11. I hope it pays well.

Is it quicker to drive to Belmont Stakes or take the LIRR?
Q. I am trying to determine if it would be quicker to drive to Belmont this weekend or to take the LIRR. "Home" is about a 40 mile drive from the track farther onto in Long Island. The train can take up to 2 hours to get on it and then I'd need to transfer at Jamaica for a 40 minute ride out to the island. It would then be another 20 minutes in the car from the train station. If anyone has been before and experienced the traffic/train situation I'd love to get your thoughts... thanks!

Which Belmont do you think should be in the upcoming live-action Castlevania movie?
Q. Yeah. for those who don't know, there's a live-action Castlevania movie in production (i think). The Belmont that is going to be in the movie is unknown. In my opinion, i think the Belmont should be Leon or Simon beacuse Leon is the first Belmont, and Simon is the most well known Belmont.
Asked by The Ninja - Wed Oct 3 23:16:37 2007 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments

A. You have to go with Simon or create your own. Not like it matters. It's just more Paul W.S. Anderson garbage regardless.

What is the general opinion of the staff, and of the students of homosexuality at Belmont University?
Q. I'm considering transferring there, but I'm gay. I know that historically it is a Christian college, but have heard that they are becoming more secular. I'm wondering if anyone here attends/has attended Belmont before and can tell me how gay people are treated there (are they accepted by students, are they discriminated against, are there policies against it, etc). Thank you :D
Asked by ernilionearendil4693 - Thu Jan 29 20:21:48 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. honestly, your gonna get into problems into any place for being gay, not just one specific area. im not discriminating but its true and especially in a catholic school. i think that being gay isnt even a big deal because i know alot of kids that are gay and i still hang out with them like i used to when i didnt know they were gay. Being gay wont really b other you unless you bring it out too much.

Can you go onto the infield at Belmont Park to look at Ruffian's gravestone?
Q. I just read the book on Ruffian and finished the movie and i want to go to Belmont park to look at her gravestone. Is it allowed?
Asked by Mark - Tue Jun 23 09:03:04 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. As said, Ruffian is buried near a flag pole in the infield of Belmont Park. When she was alive, her trainer always put her in one of his old blankets, but when she was buried, he buried her in two of his really good blankets, because she deserved them. She was buried facing toward the finish line. And, yes you need permission to view graveside. Below is a quote that always gives me chills - "Every so often, perhaps once every fifteen or twenty years, there comes to racing a horse so perfectly conformed, so talented and so tragic that it breaks the hearts of even the most hardened horsemen. Such a horse was the filly Ruffian." - The Complete Book of Thoroughbred Racing

How good of a college is Belmont University (Nashville, TN)?
Q. Hey there. I am a high school senior in CT who is looking for a good christian college and I was wondering if anyone know how good Belmont U. is? I'm planning to major in Christian Ministry and Business Management but I am also very interested in Music (Theory, Performance, Recording and Composing) and Finance. Does anyone know of Belmont's reputation, its amount of focus on Christian Studies, its quality of education and its reputation for its parties?
Asked by joel k - Fri Oct 3 19:20:37 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. it is a fairly average school in terms of competitiveness, only 1/3 of freshman graduated in the top 10% of their class and the average GPA is 3.5. also, 1/3 of students transfer out of belmont, so it would probably be best to talk to someone who has been there and find out what it is like from their view. it is small, so you would probably be getting more personalized attention and they do have decent programs, especially in music & music business, so i would say go for it!

Is there an expiration date to cash a winning ticket at Belmont Racetrack?
Q. It's from 1978 Belmont Stakes, $ 2.00 win, Affirmed, any idea of collector value? (Face value is $7 something) thx
Asked by JAMZ - Thu Jul 2 19:35:42 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Mutuel tickets from any race at Belmont Park in 2008 had to be cashed by March 31, 2009. So that makes you about 30 years too late to cash your ticket. You'll make more money selling it as a collector's item anyway. There is one Affirmed Belmont mutuel ticket up for bid on ebay right now. The opening bid is $99.99 and the Buy It Now price is $237.37. However, that ticket is autographed by Steve Cauthen (Affirmed's jockey) and the seller doesn't have any bids yet. I'd wait until the economy gets better and then put it up for bid on ebay. I wouldn't start it any lower than $50 on the first try. If it doesn't sell for that then lower it by $5 and try again.

Q. Walked the trail today along the lake front in chicago from the path starting at Belmont to North Ave beach (Castaways)

A. Belmont is 3200 north and North Ave is 1600 north. That's 16 blocks from Belmont to North. 8 blocks in a mile. 2 Miles from Belmont to North Ave. Of course, the lakeshore is not a straight line so I would put it at 2.1 or 2.2 miles or so.

Shouldn't either the Derby or the Preakness be a prerequisite for the Belmont?
Q. Instead of owners bringing in ringers just for the Belmont without racing one of the previous races. Its kind of like trying to win a triathalon against a person who only has to participate in the final running stage after you have just got done swimming and biking.

A. Interesting responses...because I kept saying this yesterday. That it just wasn't FAIR for a fresh horse to come into the Belmont and possibly rob Big Brown of the T.C. However, these responses make perfect sense...the Triple Crown is the best of the best - no matter where the best come from, and where they have raced before. And while I did realize the Derby was the Top 20, I didn't really think about that it was excluding many horses that may have just not had the chance yet. However, the otherside of that coin IS that Casino Drive could be coming in as a fresh horse while Big Brown has already answered two HUGE questions with such amazing ease! It's really an interesting spot this year...with so much attention on the sport right… [cont.]

How much money will I garner from a superfecta at the belmont?
Q. It's only 7 horses...I know it's all based on who wins, but I mean...can anyone just give me a rough estimate with a 7 horse race. how much I'd get for a superfecta?
Asked by Nathan - Thu Jun 7 12:16:13 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I don't believe they will be offering superfecta wagering with only 7 entries at Belmont. Anyway, it's too hard to say even if they did. If it is a formful race it wouldn't pay well and if it isn't, who knows? If Curlin finished fifth or worse, such a bet would probably pay a few thousand dollars. If Curlin won, followed by, say, Hard Spun, Rags to Riches and Tiago, it wouldn't pay much more than $100, if that.
