The State of Louisiana (pronounced /luːˌiːziˈænə/ ( listen) or /ˌluːziˈænə/ ( listen); French: État de Louisiane, [lwizjan] ( listen); Louisiana Creole: Léta de la Lwizyàn) is a state located in the southern region of the United States of America. Its capital is Baton Rouge and largest city is New Orleans. Louisiana is the only state in the U.S. with political subdivisions termed parishes, which are local governments equivalent to counties. The largest parish by population is Jefferson Parish, and the largest by land area is Cameron Parish. Some Louisiana urban environments have a multicultural, multilingual heritage, being so strongly influenced by an admixture of 18th century French, Spanish and African cultures that they have been considered somewhat exceptional in the U.S. Before the American influx and statehood at the beginning of the 19th century, the territory of current Louisiana State had been a Spanish and French colony. In addition, the pattern of development included importing numerous Africans in the 18th century, with many from the same region of West Africa, thus concentrating their culture. Up north there aren't really any coon-asses (no, that is not a derogatory term). Up north they are more country. And please don't listen to people who say that people will be rude to you. Mostly its the old timers who are stuck in their ways, but younger people, for the most part, are just like people anywhere else. We watch MTV, most of the people I know have read Twilight, and most people are very nice to tourists, and they will be even nicer if you are helping out in their community. Granted, there are a-holes, but you can find those anywhere. Answered by **[Witty_Name]** - Sun Jul 12 23:47:23 2009 What was the original aim of the negotiations that led to the Louisiana Purchase?
Q. in 1803, the United States purchased the Louisiana Territory from France. What was the original aim of the negotiations that led to the Louisiana Purchase? What was the final selling price? How much land did the French think they were selling, and how much land did the Americans think they were buying? Expanded Asked by In Blackest Night - Sat Mar 8 08:16:45 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The United States originally wanted only to purchase New Orleans because of the important seaport. Jefferson feared we would eventually go to war with France. America's Manifest Destiny, (westward expansion), also played a part in wanting Louisiana. France wanted to sell the entire territory not just New Orleans. France needed money for it's army. The U.S. ended up borrowing 15 million dollars at 6% interest from Great Britain for the purchase. The Louisiana Territory was all the land west of the Mississippi river that had rivers flowing eastward. Thirteen states formed from the territory. The size of the United States doubled.
