Where can I find the Recreational Vehicles Industry's averages for financial ratios?
Q. I am doing a paper on Harley Davidson and calculated their financial ratios and now I have to compare them to the industries averages for the those same ratios. The ratios include: quick ratio, current ratio, inventory turnover, fixed asset turnover, total asset turnover, return on assets, debt ratio, profit margin on sales, cash ratio, and break even.

A. This may be kind of difficult. Most financial websites like Yahoo! Finance and CNBC.com will group Harley-Davidson with automotive dealers (e.g. Honda, GM, Ford). To come up with a true industry average, you will probably have to create your own by using a spreadsheet (Excel). You can find most of your ratios from the above mentioned websites. But first, you will have to decide what companies should be included in your average. This will obviously be other companies that create recreational vehicles. The first companies that come to mind when I think Recreational vehicles are Polaris (PII), Bombardier (BDRAF.PK), Suzuki (SZKMF), and Yamaha (YAMCF.PK). Notice that most of these companies are "pink slip" or "over the counter" stocks ( [cont.]

A. Recreation vehicles are exempt from CDL regulations, provided that the vehicle is being used for recreation purposes only. No matter what size or configuration the vehicle is. If you use the RV and transport product or supplies, say for your side business, (antiques for resale, parts for repair shop, or craft supplies for your basketmaking business), then you are subject to all the CDL regulations - same as a large truck.

Who makes electric motor powered recreational vehicles?
Q. Sombody must be working on the rv side of electric motor propulsion like zerotruck is cargo haulers

A. Some are working on hybrid RVs. It's really tough though because the larger the vehicle, the more energy it requires. So then you need more and more batteries, and you need to find a place to put them, and it gets very expensive.

Recreational vehicle purchase for volunteer work tax deduction?
Q. I want to buy a RV and will use it 100% for volunteer activities. Can I write it off as an expense. I want to deduct the full purchase price or maybe depreciate it. If not, can I incorporate as a private non-profit and then deduct it that way?
Asked by k9guy07 - Thu May 17 19:17:32 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The IRS is not going to be pleased about this if you deduct the full purchase of your RV. They will think you're stealing from them. Only if you come up with at least 2 percent in extra deductions out of your pocket. This will account for your supplies, the equipment that you will use, the food, mileage, or other extra-curricular activities your volunteering work needs. You are actually creating a business this way. If the business is for non-profit, then more of your monetary proceeds will go to your cause and can get written as a write off. You also have to pay tax too if you are only giving 10 percent to your volunteering cause and the rest of the 90 percent is given to you. You can open barbecues in front of grocery stores for… [cont.]

What are the laws regarding the placement of a car seat when traveling in a recreational vehicle (RV)?
Q. My concern is that the only seat which we can safely use is also the front seat - is this illegal?
Asked by DawnS - Mon Aug 3 13:48:57 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Car seats in RVs is not the *best* idea for this very reason. The ideal thing to do would be to drive a car as well so that there is a safe place to put the carseat. However, if the child *must* go in the RV a front seat with no airbag is the best spot and is (I believe) legal in every state. You should never install a carseat on a seat that faces the rear or the side even if it does have a seatbelt (and of course most don't). Just keep in mind that *any* passenger in the front seat is more likely to be injured in an accident.

What is a career in which you can design (floor plans) for recreational vehicles and campers?
Q. I have been pondering carrer choices lately and am really interested in both real estate and architecture. I would like to look more into real estate but dont want to give up my passion for architecture. I dont really want to design houses though, i have been really interested in camping all of my life and my family has owned a camper since i was a kid. I was wondering if there is such a thing as a "camper architect" or something f the sort where you can design the floorplans and etc. of campers and RVs.

A. All of the major RV and trailer manufacturers hire designers to create the most efficient and the most pleasing floorplans for their products. Cavco and Roadrunner ( i don't work for them) would be willing to listen to your ideas. if they think you have talent they might give you a chance for 6 months to prove that you really do have some new ideas. The space is limited and they all need a bed and a table and a "kitchen" so there is not a lot of room for modifications. You will need to surprise them..

Below is from the Nevada state site and may help to point you in the proper direction: NRS 487.230 Removal of vehicles abandoned on property other than public lands. 1. troubleshooting recreational vehicle propane refridgerators?
Q. I'm trying to figure out why my propane refridgerator is not functioning. It was unused for 18 months. (worked before that) The propane burner is functioning well with blue flame and the unit is level but there seems to be a problem with the ammonia system (or thermostat?). There is a periodic gurgling sound but no cooling happening. Any tips?
Asked by G L - Sun Jul 9 20:57:59 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The refrigeration system of an RV uses absorption refrigeration, it is quite different from your refrigerator or airconditioner in your house. Your best bet would be to find a company that specializes in absorption or take it to an RV repair shop, besides, you wont be able to go down to home depot and purchase this type of ammonia.
