Camping Facts

Camping is an outdoor recreational activity. The participants, known as campers, leave urban areas, their home region, or civilization and enjoy nature while spending one or several nights, usually at a campsite, which may have cabins. Camping may involve the use of a tent, a primitive structure, or no shelter at all.

Camping as a recreational activity became popular in the early 20th century. Campers frequent national parks, other publicly owned natural areas, and privately owned campgrounds.

Camping is also used as a cheap form of accommodation for people attending large open air events such as sporting meetings and music festivals. Organizers will provide a field and basic amenities.

Camping Answers
What camping mattress do you recommend for somebody with a sore back?
Q. I'm not talking about RV camping here. I have a ThermaRest and every morning I wake up sore in my lower back. Is there something else out there that is light and packable?

A. I had lower back surgery a few years ago and I know what it feels like to wake up with the sore back. How thick is your ThermaRest? I use a RidgeRest on bottom, then a 25 inch wide, 2 inch thick ThermaRest, then a 25 inch wide and a 2.5 inch thick ThermaRest on top of that. I sleep very good and the mattresses stay in place. You realize that you need to sleep "in" the ThermaRest, not "on". Lay down on your fully inflated setup and let air out until it is comfortable. My 2.5 inch mattress is lighter than the 2 inch. The 2 inch is the Camp Rest which is supposed to be the warmest mattress they make. When backpacking I carry the 2.5 inch mattress and the RidgeRest. I have carried two RidgeRest pads and one 1.5 inch ThermaRest and… [cont.]

How to surprise my husband a camping trip?
Q. I want to surprise my husband with a camping trip for our 1 year anniversary. We both LOVE to camp and this seems like the perfect time. I just don't know how to pull this one off with out him knowing what going on. I want to take him to the Texas coast but he will know where were going when he see's the highway... Or maybe I should just tell him??? Who knows??? Any ideas?

A. You`ll probably have to tell him you`re going camping, he`ll see all the gear and food in the car anyway. But that doesnt mean he has to know where exactly you are going...
