User-side factors are things like computer speed, their internet connection speed, the resolution of their monitor, whether or not they have the correct type of flash player, etc. These are things to consider when a user access a web page that renders on their machine. Server-side factors include things like databases and networks that store information on a server based in a warehouse somewhere that the users all access and share. An example would be the items offered by Amazon.com. They sell millions of different store items, all of which are assorted in their database, stored on their server in one of their buildings.
