what to ask/look for when buying an rv?
Q. I'm consideriong a purchase of a used r/v for myself. I'm wondering what things i should be looking at and what r/v specific questions i should ask in order to find a good deal for my money. any help is appreciated. thanks

A. The first thing you need to ask yourself is what am I comfortable spending and how much am I going to use it. If you find a salesman that listens to you that helps a lot. You also need to make sure you are getting a RV that works and isn't full of dry rot or soft floors. This is done by finding a dealership that does what it says it will do. If they say that everything will work they should make sure they do. If you buy from a private party you better now what to look for. Stains in the ceiling, roof condition and many other things are important. You can look at our inventory at www.rvcorral.com

can you drive an RV with a leaky wheel cylinder?
Q. I'm thinking of buying an RV, but the guy said it has a leaky wheel cylinder. How a bad is this? I have driven my van with only one brake hooked up, and it stopped, it just would turn to the side a bit. It's a gret deal on an RV and it's going to go fast, and all I want to do is drive ti back to my house (one town over) is this safe, if i go REALLY slowly?

A. Yes, but be extra careful and use the brakes as sparingly as possible.

For those who bought an RV, did you buy extended warranty?
Q. We are seriously considering buying a travel trailer to camp in and are wondering if buying an extended warranty it is worth the extra money? Did you buy one, and if so did you have to use it? If you did not, did you regret it?
Asked by spadabek71 - Thu Jul 10 01:13:29 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. For some folks the extended warranties arent worth the money but for me it is. I would have been really in a hard situation without it a couple times with my car when I didnt have the extra money to pay up front. I was really happy I had the extended warranty. It's simple to get a estimate at a website to check how much it will run you for a policy. I have recommended - Good luck.

We bought an RV this past year, it got wrecked shortly after. Can we claim it as a loss?
Q. Okay we bought an RV, due to a manufacturer problem it wrecked while taking vacation. We had already made 5 payments on it at the time. The insurance company paid it off but our question is can claim it at a loss? Thanks in advance for your answers. The insurance company paid off the balance but we did not get reimbursed for the first 5 payments. We only had it 5 months when a manufacturer error caused it to crash. Luckily we did not hurt. What is AGI?
Asked by donna_scagnelli - Tue Jan 29 08:24:03 2008 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Only uninsured casualty losses can be claimed. Since the insurance company paid the claim only your deductible would be eligible. Due to the way that casualty loss deductions are calculated it's highly unlikely you'd have anything to claim. If the amount of your deductible, less $100, less 10% of your AGI is still a positive number, THAT is what you can deduct.

A. Do you have an area that is known as a retirement city, state??? You will be amazed what kind of deals/information you can obtain from someone that been around it recently and now they have stopped traveling and not really trying to make money off the deal, also, they can tell you what to watch for,Maintenance..etc..etc ..etc...

A. In this economy, you can find used ones pretty reasonable I would think. It just depends how elaborate of a unit that you want.

Will onlookers give us hassles if we travel the US in an RV with our well-behaved homeschooling children?
Q. We've homeschooled for 15 years. We'd like to buy an RV and take off across the country. As travelers, will anyone bother us about the boys not being in a government school? If we take a rental house for a few months somewhere, will we be considered residents instead of vacationing? We're planning a fun vacation, not something that will allow a strange society to beat up on our family continually.
Asked by lookingforinfo - Mon Sep 15 15:23:16 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. 1. As long as you're following the homeschooling laws where you're a resident, there's np. 2. If people do thing it's odd, that's their problem not yours. 3. This is something I've wanted to do for years, but don't have the resources to pull off. I say go for it! =) What an absolutely amazing educational experience for your children. 4. No, I believe as long as you're paying taxes in your home state, you're not considered resident anywhere else. I think. Hopefully someone else will have a more definite answer on that one.

I don't have amy idea on how to do this. Is there any special things I need to do or can I just hook up the tank and pump to the water line and I'm good?I have already got a 20 gallon tank, but with no hoses. Help...

Can someone tell me how to get an RV infield spot for the 2009 Daytona 500?
Q. I've never camped in the infield for any race, but I have 4 tickets to the Daytona 500 for 2009 and I would like to park my RV and make a week long event out of it. Can anyone explain how to reserve/buy infield RV spots?
Asked by Jay G - Fri Feb 22 09:57:36 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Try E-Bay or someplace that sells tickets for entertainment. Good luck though the waiting list to get an infield site is probably longer than the race itself. I do have a friend who kept calling Michigan INTL. Speedway in the weeks leading up to one of the races there in June 2 years ago & got lucky because someone had cancelled a reservation.

If you could either: move anywhere in the country or roam around in an RV, which would you do?
Q. Ward just retired. He has consented to move out of this ice bucket. (Alaska) I want to move to Miami or Ft. Lauderdale. He wants to sell our house, buy an RV and cruise around the country so we have no bills and no taxes etc...He said we could visit each child for a month, just hook up the RV home to their electric, and then move on a month later. I'm not sure I want to feel like a turtle. I'm not ever sure what I am asking here to tell you the truth.
Asked by June Cleaver & Her Eager Beaver - Thu Jan 22 15:22:46 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would definitely want a real house somewhere to call home. Even a modest house in small town where taxes and housing costs are low. But I am not a big "on the road" traveler anyway, so the whole RV thing sounds like nightmare to me. Plus, imagine when gas gets back to $4.00/gallon... you will just be parked and unable to drive anywhere.

Is an automatic transmission best in buying a truck to pull an RV or does it matter?
Q. I'm in the process of purchasing a truck for the purpose of pulling an RV? Being new at this I am wondering whether an automatic or standard is best for pulling.
Asked by harrical55 - Fri Jul 20 09:29:57 2007 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Many RV'rs use automatic. The most important thing is to buy one with a transmission suitable for pulling the weight of the loaded RV. Wrong transmission the biggest mistake I,ve seen. You will be climbing up to 15% grade if not more. Canada has some steep grades should you go there. Have this info when you shop. Be careful that the salesman knows what he/she is talking about. Consider the fresh water, Extra fuel tank and propane if applicable, all personal belongings, kitchen wares, any sporting equipment, etc. Good luck and have fun.

Do you think there will be an economic collapse in America?
Q. Oil is hitting $130 a barrel today. The middle class is shrinking. My logic is this, when the middle class is down to the lower class, it will cause a chain reaction. For instance, Middle class can't afford a doctor's office. Doctor makes less money so stops buying RV's, Trips, and mercedes... Or Middle class can't afford trips, hotels, those go under. Their CEO's go under. I just find this collapse inevitable. With food shortages, things are looking scary.
Asked by Chris R - Tue May 20 11:25:36 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. so you see it,too?? the poorer class is getting bigger, there will be two classes of people: the very Rich, and the Poor. Until this is resolved, the middle class will, as you have intelligently pointed out: continue to shrink. Here in Va., food stamp applications have risen in the past year. 55%. That I read in the newspaper. " Good man, Friday."

A. I work at a state park in Pennsylvania, most people fill up when they get to the park. but if you plan on living in the rv on your way to a camping spot you should fill up at home before you leave, also most parks have a sanitary dump station so you can dump your sewage and gray water before you leave. happy camping!!

Q. With DMV closed overthe weekend I wont beable to get the title to register te van until monday. I will be homeless as of Thursday and needed to pick up the RV on Thursday. I have $3000 out of the $3700 I had previously negotiated. I have $1500 being wired from barcelona Spain today, this should be available by Friday. Anyone have any Ideas?
Asked by digurheartoutwithaspoon - Wed Jul 23 16:41:55 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. This is a tough situation... Do you have a credit card? Maybe you could take out a cash advance, or even charge the difference on it if you're buying from a dealer. If that's no good, maybe you could get some sort of check advance from a pay day loan place. Just be aware that the cash advance or pay day loan will charge a high rate of interest even if you just need the money for 3 days, but as long as it's paid back quickly you won't be gouged for too much. Another option you might want to try--and I don't know if the seller will go for it--is to give him a check and date it for Friday. Tell him the money will be there and ask him to wait until Friday to cash it. This would probably be your cheapest option, and it wouldn't hurt to… [cont.]
