What to look for when buying an RV?
Q. i was just wondering what i should really look for when buying an RV.im considering buying one to live in,not to vacation in.so i figure i will need to buy a park model, which im assuming holds more water and things of that nature.could anyone fill me in on maybe what type or name brand i should go with?maybe water tank size and things of that nature.i am single,so it will only be me living in it.

A. In a park the water tank won't matter. You will hook it up to water, sewer and power. If you were towing it you would probably need a bigger truck, shocks, springs and to decide if you also wanted to haul a boat. Look at used mobiles in parks they are very inexpensive. You risk the park being closed and having to move but you might live for years for almost nothing. Also look at weatherproofing and consider the cost of skirting, porches and gutters.

My husband and I have just started looking into buying an RV...?
Q. What kinds of things go into maintaining an RV that most people don t think about? What hidden costs should I try to keep in mind?
Asked by justme - Mon Oct 16 20:07:48 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Low fuel Mileage, holding tank pump out fees, parking the big old thing at national Parks and points of interest, winterizing the freshwater tank and holding tank, replacement parts when out of your area, replacement parts costs, overcrowded RV Parks, regular engine maintenance. Sort of like owning a Boat, maintenance and parts costs will be higher just because its an RV and suppliers think your rich and can afford to spend the extra cash. Don't let these things stop you, RV's are great and have more pro's than con's.

A. Even though tis also covers things about MHPs it will help. Differences between buying a Mobile Home Park versus an RV Park: When considering the purchase of a mobile home park as compared to an RV park there are many factors to consider. While mobile home parks and RV parks are often sold by the same brokers and are combined in one facility, they are not the same and both require different amounts and types of management. The following comparisons are for Overnight/Destination RV parks as compared to the typical mobile home park in which the lots are rented out on a monthly basis. In many cases, the seasonal or extended stay RV parks will have more of the qualities of the typical mobile home park rather than those of the Overnight/De [cont.]

We bought an RV this past year, it got wrecked shortly after. Can we claim it as a loss?
Q. Okay we bought an RV, due to a manufacturer problem it wrecked while taking vacation. We had already made 5 payments on it at the time. The insurance company paid it off but our question is can claim it at a loss? Thanks in advance for your answers. The insurance company paid off the balance but we did not get reimbursed for the first 5 payments. We only had it 5 months when a manufacturer error caused it to crash. Luckily we did not hurt. What is AGI?
Asked by donna_scagnelli - Tue Jan 29 08:24:03 2008 - - 4 Answers - 1 Comments

A. Only uninsured casualty losses can be claimed. Since the insurance company paid the claim only your deductible would be eligible. Due to the way that casualty loss deductions are calculated it's highly unlikely you'd have anything to claim. If the amount of your deductible, less $100, less 10% of your AGI is still a positive number, THAT is what you can deduct.

Buying an RV as a permanent residence in California during an active Chapter 13 BK?
Q. I am currently in a Chapter 13 plan (since 4/05). I live in CA and have been a homeowner from 1998 till right before filing my Chapter 13 due to an expensive & litigious Divorce. Unfortunately, I am unable to afford a home based on real estate prices in California. I have restablished credit (below the $1000 threshold allowed) & my credit score is 600 which I've been told is very good for an active BK. In regards to taxes, I can no longer claim my kids and I've lost the homeowner's deduction, I would like to purchase an RV as a permanent residence. I have checked with an attorney and a tax advisor who both advise this is a smart move based on my income and tax bracket. The attorney advises that the Chapter 13 Trustee will, most… [cont.]

A. Sorry you're going through this issue. Your question caught my attention because I actually lived in an RV while going to college and living in South Orange County. There are two ways of going about this. First, the way I tried was horrible and failed miserably. And that is to just live on the streets, move the RV from time to time and fill up on water and drain when you can. The major problem is of course, you become a number one target for the Police and people hate you. It's a very sick unsecure feeling to not have any place to 'call your own' and constantly feel like a criminal. (almost) Second is to have or rent a place to park the thing permanantly. This would be a good option in my opinion. The only issue is one again cost. Renting… [cont.]

Office space cheap? Idea: Buying an RV? After hours access?
Q. I need an office for a home business-consulting-and don't make enough to take the risk of signing a one year lease. I have been considering buying a cheap RV (27 foot) to convert as an office, but storage places have gate hours and my appts. are in the evening. Plus, what about insurance-is there additional if you use it as a business "office"? I don't know anything about this, but I am trying creative ideas that are cheap if/when appts. are slow and money isn't coming in at times. I have considered bartering office space for help, too. I can't rent for each appt. either, I have equipment that needs a permanent home. thanks in advance for your help!

A. It sounds like you are in a pretty tough spot right now... I would consider shopping around for executive suites in the area . Executive Suites are built out centers (so there's no construction/installing fees to have to consider) in these type of spaces you can literally sign an agreement today and move in tomorrow. Many executive suites out there include internet service, electricity, furnishing, etc in one monthly price. A great place to start looking, asking questions, and receiving information is www.officebroker.com Good luck!

A. I wouldn't advise it, it could be really messed up and not working properly.Sometimes, people lie to get rid of their junk. I don't think eBay would reimburse you, but you can talk to the seller about it if you're not satisfied. might not work. Good luck!

A. we own both, there are many similarities, also many differences the first is the taxes, just because your on the road doesnt mean there are no taxes, you must pay hotel occupancy taxes to any juristitction you land in or hook up to/ park in. your choice of clothing and food storage on the road is substantially restricted, as is access to medical services, your family md or dentist is likely to be hundreds of miles in the distance and as a result, so are your personal records that may be needed in an emergency. in the event that you should have a catastrophic break down while driving, it means you need cash to cover repairs, and that means asap, obviously that requires financial mobile security. at home or in an apartment, all of these… [cont.]

A. I work at a state park in Pennsylvania, most people fill up when they get to the park. but if you plan on living in the rv on your way to a camping spot you should fill up at home before you leave, also most parks have a sanitary dump station so you can dump your sewage and gray water before you leave. happy camping!!

Obama uses RV purchase as an example?
Q. You got people that want to purchase RV's with good credit that can't get a loan to purchase an RV.. Thats HOGWASH! People are not buying RV's because they are overpriced gas guzzling, depreciation, pieces of junk. You got a nation on edge b/c they dont know if gas is going to go to $4.00 a gallon.. Thats why people are not buying RV's.. be honest with the people OBAMA! bdzot, sure does! Priceless Point! Slaps - It will just drain money from our economy to prop up a useless government. priceless!!! They all want it passed so they insure they all get a pay check.. Forget about us... I think America is headed to a society of those that have and those that have not..
Asked by J B - Tue Feb 10 07:19:27 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. so true. he result of gas spiking then dropping back is no one wants to buy a car. All automakers are in serious decline. Of course the press pretends that American automakers are in worse shape than the rest, but Honda and Toyota are just as hard hit, and RVs are much harder hit. Then Obama pretends a porkulus bill will help, but in fact it will just drain money from our economy to prop up a useless government. What a liar. And getting to be a crybaby.

I have land and I have an RV on it that we use for hunting there, can I deduct the interest on my taxes?
Q. We are in the process of buying acreage and currently use it for hunting. We have an RV on it (has kitchenette, sleeping area, shower/toilet). We eventually plan on building something more permanent there, but not at the moment (and probably not within the next two years). Can we deduct the interest we are paying on our owner financed mortgage on the property from our federal income taxes?
Asked by qhgirl_2000 - Mon Nov 10 10:48:02 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It should qualify as a "second home" so you could deduct it. Even a boat with sleeping facilities, etc. qualifies, so your RV should be OK as a second home. You could deduct the interest and the property taxes on your Schedule A.
