Recreational vehicle purchase for volunteer work tax deduction?
Q. I want to buy a RV and will use it 100% for volunteer activities. Can I write it off as an expense. I want to deduct the full purchase price or maybe depreciate it. If not, can I incorporate as a private non-profit and then deduct it that way?
Asked by k9guy07 - Thu May 17 19:17:32 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The IRS is not going to be pleased about this if you deduct the full purchase of your RV. They will think you're stealing from them. Only if you come up with at least 2 percent in extra deductions out of your pocket. This will account for your supplies, the equipment that you will use, the food, mileage, or other extra-curricular activities your volunteering work needs. You are actually creating a business this way. If the business is for non-profit, then more of your monetary proceeds will go to your cause and can get written as a write off. You also have to pay tax too if you are only giving 10 percent to your volunteering cause and the rest of the 90 percent is given to you. You can open barbecues in front of grocery stores for… [cont.]

Summer Fun! What kind of recreational vehicle would I have most summer fun on?
Q. I want one of the following and would like your opinions also: Should I buy a Streetbike, Dirtbike, 4 Wheeler or Jet Ski...? The streetbike and jet ski are seasonal pretty much for warm weather but the other 2 can be all year round. I would still like to hear what you think, what do you like and why?

A. You leave the question wide open, Depending where in the country You live, in calif You can't use the forest trails on a vech that is not registered for on road use, I would suggest a duel sport Bike Street or dirt You can go almost anywhere on them and they are more than powerfull for anything other than racing.

inspection and registration for your vehicle? recreational vehicles?
Q. what do you think about these? are they really necessary past a point? should they be done so often and the average citizen be forced to pay so much? once the car is yours and you buy the plates is it really necessary to re-register it every year? also for inspection, should that be optional? many states do not have it, others do. there is no noticable difference in accidents in either place, or any other statistic. what about recreational vehicles like ATV's? if a motorcycle has 2 wheels and is allowed, why not a bigger, safer version? what do you think about this?
Asked by a_free_man_forever - Sun Aug 5 10:10:18 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Part of the registration goes to highway maintenance. There are various other things that get money from the payment also. I wish my State had inspections. every time I follow a vehicle that looks more like a mosquito fogger than a passenger vehicle I get upset. Some people could save money also. A $10 inspection verses a $25 fine for a burnt out headlight. You can't compare motorcycles to ATV's because one is for on-road and one for off-road. I can't see a way to go even 55 MPH, safely, on a trail. Look how many kids are getting killed yearly on ATV's because they go top speed without knowing what the terrain ahead of them is.

Is there someone that helps you buy a new/used car like the way Realtors help you buy real estate?
Q. Ok, so I was wondering the other day- there are realtors out there to help you in the buying process of real estate, so is there such a person out there that could help you in the buying process of a car and any other recreational vehicle? My husband and I thought about it, and really didn't know if there was even such a person that existed- BECIDES the car salesman that works for the dealership? Someone that would not take a cut of commission from the sale? A complete third party that is truly there to assist you in getting the best deal and looking out for YOUR best interest instead of the dealerships? My question is to you guys, is there such a person out there? If not, for freaking bananas; why doesn't someone start up this business? [cont.]

A. some banks actually have people working with them that help do this, they help you get financed, and because they work for the bank they only get payed by the bank or lender, not all banks have caught on to this yet ,but some of the larger ones are doing it,and it makes it a lot easier for anyone to get a loan, all you have to beware on this is the interest rate you get, sometimes it can be pretty high, your right though ,someone should open up a business like this, they have them for everything else,it would be worth doing, but still they would have to charge a fee, other wise they couldn't stay in business, good luck on it.

Paint a vehicle yourself?
Q. How feasible is it to paint a vehicle yourself? We have an old school bus that we would like to fix up into a camper (sounds ghetto, LOL, but we actually like fishing and other outdoor activities so it is a perfect idea to put this otherwise useless vehicle to use). The thing is, we want to make it look nice and not so "trailer-parkish." It does not have to look PERFECT, but it should look nice have a somewhat quality appearance. I am experienced in the actual conversion and electrical aspects of turning this bus into a recreational vehicle, but have never attempted to paint one. How feasible is it to paint a vehicle yourself as opposed to taking it to a body shop? Is it worth the investment of buying painting equipment to do this… [cont.]

A. i painted a van myself. i used a cheap sprayer and it turned out allright. it is a good 20' paint job, any closer, and you can see some runs, etc. instead of buying an automotive paint, i used a product from benjamin moore called aliphatic acrylic urethane. it is a two part epoxy that is chemically VERY similar to auto paint. it should cost a lot less than auto paints. it might be worth checking out. i painted 3 years ago, and there is no fading, etc. looks great! you can order from most benjamin moore dealers, find one online at it might be worth checking into, and it was fairly easy to work with.

A. I have raced both and had good luck with both. I personally would get the newer bike if they are both in pretty much the same shape.

What will americans do when the world runs out of petroleum? It may be alot sooner than later.?
Q. Well, it seems to me that only americans buy the most gas guzzlers, everyone else in the world, have better sensibilities. Unless you're a government in need of practical utility vehicles. The limo industry could easily convert to an alternative fuel source, but heavy industry will have difficulties, there are a lot more over-sized trucks doing genuine work than a lot of people may realize. The recreational driver will be the most put out, since you only get about 10 miles to the gallon on most typical big pick-ups, before aftermarket tampering. Although, there will always be motorcyles, they can run off of almost anything. I seem to recall, a role playing game called Car Wars, where all the vehicles ran on Electricity. Will it ever get… [cont.]

A. The world doesn't have a short supply of petroleum. It only has a short supply of 'easy' petroleum. Over time, crude oil will be more and more difficult to get out of the ground, and require more refining to be usuable. So stuff will be more expensive. But that's Ok, because that will make solar cars, hydrogen powered cars, ethanol powered cars, etc., a better deal. Right now, they are too expensive, and nobody wants them. But the higher price of oil will be the best thing for those more environmentally freindly alternatives.

Dodge Durango or Jeep Grand Cherokee?
Q. im buying a used vehicle, decided an SUV will suit my needs, i need to know which the better vehicle is, year of the jeep is 1999, so its the middle body style, 4.7 L. The Durango is a 1999 also, i think it has the 5.2 L, but im still waiting for a dealer answer. both are 4X4's, with towing, leather, and both are around 12000 miles, and are 4000$ i prefer the jeep's center shifter and interior, but i like the durango's larger wheel wells, and it seems more rugged I do some recreational offroad, nothing crazy, i live in northern illinois so i deal with wicked snow and ice, so thats a factor. any experience/Input is appreciated no, dave is correct, the jeep IS the one with the 4.7, yes they have a 4.7 liter powertech in 1999, and i… [cont.]

A. They are similar vehicles and it sounds like both would suit your needs. From experience I would lean towards the Durango for 2 simple reasons. #1 Even though the 4.7 is a descent engine the 5.2L and 5.9L are much more reliable and less expensive to repair if necessary. And the Durango will have the more reliable 46RE trans as opposed to the 545RFE in the Jeep #2 We see alot more wierd electrical problems with the grand Cherokee's (not that Durango's dont have their quirks sometimes). Hope this helps!

Why are we so concerend about fuel prices? Let's compare with 37 years ago. Gas was $.40/gal or so.?
Q. An 18 gal fillup on the only new vehicle I ever bought was less than $10. That equaled about 8% of my weekly take home salary. That was 1971...Here in 2008 a similar fillup of 18 gal costs near $67 and my weely wage is now 3 times what I earned then. So fuel costs compared to earnings per week now costs 23% or so. That's around a 300% increase and it's certainly outrageous. Housing costs have increased more than that. Food costs also take a much bigger bite. Bread costs more than 500% more than it did in 1971. Fuel costs are not what is killing the working man. Housing and food and medical and everything else are the real problems. Do you think we blame fuel costs because it is so closely linked with the american dream of… [cont.]

A. It is all out of whack. The realestate market is just absolutely ridiculous, right along with health care. The problem with the high fuel cost is that it effects everything else that gets transported by truck, such as the food. Then there are the frivolous lawsuits to blame too, such as the lady who sued McD's for the hot coffee.I'm sure she wasn't expecting cold coffee. So my point is that everything is way out proportion. We all complain about the food, the housing, etc. but it's the cost of fuel that affects us all. What will happen when people can't afford to drive to work? It's not that far from the truth right now.My dad paid less for a house with 4 lots in 1970,($15,000 ) then what a new car cost now. There isn't a car or truck out there worth… [cont.]

How do police justify putting non violent criminals in prison?
Q. I understand if you are a drug smuggler, or a person that sits by the local high school and tries to deal heroine to teenagers...those people should be locked away. I just don't understand why people who wish to do no harm to others get locked up.. For example, i've done cocaine some time in my life, but I am not addicted to it. If I would of gotten caught with it who knows how much headache that alone would of caused me. People should be free to do what they want inside of there own home as long as it is not negatively effecting those around them. If people want to go buy a xanax from someone because they have trouble sleeping, who cares? Don't arrest the person until he/she gets behind the wheel of a vehicle under the influence, then let… [cont.]

A. Why are you blaming the police? Police don't make the laws...they enforce them. If you're crazy enough to think that doing cocaine doesn't deserve punishment, complain about the law makers...not the guys and girls out their enforcing these laws Let's say your mother was killed by somebody driving under the influence of cocaine Are you going to give that driver a pass? Cocaine doesn't hurt anybody right...so you can't be mad at them? Oh, and by the way...the police watched this person doing coke, but they weren't anywhere near a car, so they had to get back to their patrol...Are you still OK with it? Honest questions...I'd love to hear an answer
