Has anyone else adopted a wild Mustang from the Bureau of Land Management? How did you train it?
Q. I have a Mustang named "Neehi" (because he's "orange" like Neehi orange soda and he was about knee high when I got him). He got used to me rather quickly and didn't seem to be afraid of anything. I walked him with a leadline after only two days at my house and he was wonderful - a pro at it. When he was three, I started to saddle train him. I put a sack with a little sand in it on his back and let him get used to it. I added more sand every few days. I was able to climb on his back after two weeks of this with no problem. He doesn't like the saddle though. When I try to put it on his back, he bucks and pulls away. Any ideas? I've read about every book out there.

A. I suggest that you let a pro trainer do the breaking and training, Mustangs are wild animals and can be very dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. I have broke a few but they will revert back to the wild animals that they were born to be if not handled and ridden regularly. I suggest a domesticated horse if you plan on living very long. Mustangs are better off left in the wild where they belong. I know from experience that very few of these wonderful animals make good riding horses. Good Luck, Lou

Who can I alert that coyotes are being hunted on BLM land?
Q. Please Only Serious Answers. A group old men are going onto Bureau of Land Management to kill coyotes in their natural habitat. Nye County, Nevada. They are doing this for sport and are actively pursuing the coyotes. This is not a situation where a coyote is wandering into town and I think it is unfair and illegal. Do you know who I can file a complaint to?
Asked by Boycott Hollywd Commies - Tue Mar 13 20:33:36 2007 - - 10 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I highly doubt it is illegal; coyotes are generally an unprotected species. Additionally, it looks like in Nevada you don't even need a hunting license to hunt coyote. Hunting on BLM or National Forest land is generally governed by state laws.

Who is stealing water from Eagle Lake?
Q. California is in a drought and someone is stealing water from Eagle Lake. Eagle Lake water is high in alkalinity and basically unfit to drink however fish and wildlife depend on it. Every day the water level is getting lower, the tulle's are disappearing, fish are getting smaller, the birds and other wildlife that depend on the lake are at peril. The Bureau of Land Management who has control isn't doing anything to curb the water thefts. Eagle lake seems like a large lake but it is shallow, if something isn't done soon to stop the draining the lake may soon look like a mud hole. So who's stealing the water?

Q. We are looking for a horse that is trained. We got some suggestions from a friend about the Bureau of Land Management Mustang Adoption Program in Idaho or Oregon. I was wondering if any one new a website about this, or any other information about this.
Asked by Katie - Tue Jun 6 16:13:10 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The BLM adopts out WILD horses, not trained ones. If you are looking for a trained horse, and do not want to spend a lot of money, consider a free lease. There are many, many horses available as free lease, because their owners are off to college or are starting families and do not have time to ride them anymore. I included a link that offers free horses. When you contact the owners, explain what you want to use the horse for, and what your personal training and experience has been. I also included a link to the BLM, but you do NOT want a wild horse as your first horse!

Is the moratorium to build solar plants on public lands a fossil fuel conspiracy?
Q. "The Bureau of Land Management says an extensive environmental study is needed to determine how large solar plants might affect millions of acres it oversees in six Western states Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah...fledgling solar companies must wait to see if they can realize their hopes of harnessing power from swaths of sun-baked public land...Others warned the bureau against becoming mired in its own bureaucratic processes on solar energy, while parts of the West are already humming with new oil and gas development...Craig Cox, the executive director of the Interwest Energy Alliance, a renewable energy trade group, said he worried that the freeze would throw a monkey wrench into the solar energy… [cont.]

A. No, I think the BLM just doesn't know how to properly conduct an environmental assessment for a solar project, and instead of figuring it out as they permit them, they're simply stopping all development. See link below.

A. This looks very much like your homework. You should attempt it yourself. That is the only way you will learn. Each part of learning is the building block for the next stage. You are cheating yourself if you don't at least attempt this because you will get more and more lost, less able to do the next task. Please, when you hand your work in, tell your teacher you found it hard and that you would like some help. That way, he/she will help you and you will soon be getting A* without needing to cheat by asking on Answers.
