I would try looking at Greyhound. The farther out you buy your ticket the cheaper it is. Depending on when you go they run specials throughout the year. You might also want to look into taking the train; sometimes they have some pretty good deals. They usually have a more direct route and are a little better then the bus. If you are driving and looking for cheap places to stay, I would recommend hostels and camping! Camping is so cheap and you really can save a ton of cash. Also take food and drinks cheaper than buying them from the gas stations or restaurants! Good luck if I had more info on what you needed I might be able to help you more.
