A. the men at the alamo were beseiged for several days. a u.s. army was gathering a few counties away (san jacinto), and instead of pursue this army, santa anna stayed at the alamo, exhausting his men. when santa anna eventually went to san jacinto, his efforts were useless and the mexican american war was ended by the treaty of gaudeloupe hidalgo.
